The campsites in Barcelona are spacious and have plenty of trees, outdoor space and camping pitches with shade. The campsites look almost park-like. There is often a swimming pool at the campsites for you to take a refreshing dip, and you don't have to look far to find something for the children to do, they will have a great time with the entertainment team. All of the campsites lie on the Costa Brava. You can drive or take the metro or train and be on La Rambla in the blink of an eye, which is ideal for a day trip or a bite to eat. • Paella
  When you think about Spanish food you think about tapas and sangria and possibly paella! This yellow saffron rice is mixed with a generous amount of seafood, prawns, chicken and olives and is the speciality of many restaurants in Barcelona. • Sagrada Familia
  The main tourist attraction in Barcelona has been under construction since 1866. This basilica, designed by Antoni Gaudi, is one of the largest in Europe. Gaudi's architectural style is characterised by his use of light and colour. These two elements can be seen both outside and inside the basilica. A visit to the basilica is a must. It is advisable to buy your tickets online in advance, and in doing so you will avoid hours of queuing!
• Palo Alto Markt
  Spanish art, food and music come together at this street market in the Sant Martí district. You can easily combine a visit to the market with an afternoon relaxing on the beach just around the corner. Alternatively, you can buy delicious food at the market and settle down in one of the beautiful parks in the area, such as Parc del Centre del Poblenou.

Family holiday

Camping in Barcelona is ideal with children. The whole family can really enjoy themselves building sandcastles on the beach or spotting animals in one of the nature parks. PortAventura, the largest amusement park in Spain, is fantastic and is a 1 hour 30 minute drive from Barcelona. This amusement park has different themed areas, such as Sesame Street, Mediterranean and the Wild West, each with its own roller coasters and other attractions. It is large enough to enjoy a full day here, although an afternoon can be just as fun.

Discovery

As part of your camping holiday, alongside the dazzling city, you can also discover the rustic countryside and fortified towns of Catalonia. Catalonia lies directly beneath the Pyrenees, which means there are many mountainous nature parks with a variety of rocks, rivers and old Roman villages. A hike over the Montserrat mountain is highly recommended. The name of this strange rock formation comes from its 'serrated peaks'. The Montserrat monastery lies on the east side of the mountain and is a popular pilgrimage and tourist destination. There are also many other towns to be discovered in the area. There are many picturesque fortified towns along the coast, such as Sitges. You can also visit Girona, which is a 40 minute train ride from Barcelona.

The weather

A camping holiday in Barcelona means guaranteed sun. It has a wonderful Mediterranean climate and is a great place to be throughout the summer. The temperature is slightly lower in May, June and September but still high enough to make a camping/city trip to Barcelona appealing.
