Day trips from campsites in South Holland

There’s no shortage of options for day trips from your campsite. South Holland has plenty of cities offering excellent shopping or cultural opportunities. Three tips for a great day out:

  • Rotterdam
If you’re wanting a fun day trip from your campsite, Rotterdam has to be on your list. You’ll love the shopping here, and the well-done modern architecture is a spectacle to behold. Erasmus Bridge (Erasmusbrug) gives you a brilliant view of the Rotterdam skyline, particularly lit up at night.
  • The Hague
Known in Dutch as Den Haag, the Hague is a major historical city rich in sights and certainly worth visiting from your campsite. The Hague, which is the Dutch seat of government but not officially the capital city, is best known for the very old and intimate parliament complex (Het Binnenhof), the international institutions at the Peace Palace (Vredespaleis) and the Queen’s working palace, Paleis Noordeinde. Another popular attraction in the city is Madurodam, a famous miniature city.
  • Gouda
There are smaller cities in the province of South Holland that are no less worthwhile if you’re here at a campsite. Gouda is world famous for its cheese of the same name, and this is one of the cities where the cheese market is still held in the traditional manner.

If you’re bringing children, you’re likewise well catered for in terms of fun day trips from the campsites. South Holland has several good amusement parks, one of which — Duinrell, just north of the Hague, — has some spectacular rides for all the family. A day at Sealife in Scheveningen will also be a highlight: it’s home to some amazing sea creatures.
