Harz is the most northerly of Germany’s low mountain ranges, with the highest peak of Brocken at 1141m. The mountainscape of Harz is perfect for outdoor activities, from mountain biking on Wurmberg to monster rollers (downhill oversize scooters) with the whole family in Braunlage.

This beautiful area is perfect for unwinding. The beautiful surroundings, fresh air and mineral water from the mountains have made Harz an ideal location for sanatoria, and is one of the best regions in Germany to visit a spa. The thermal baths in Altenau and sanatoria in Bad Grund and Bad Lauterberg are highly recommended as places to indulge.

Harz boasts a number of fine campsites, all of which you can camp on in your own tent or caravan. Children won’t bore easily on a campsite and many sites in Harz have play areas and swimming pools.

• Kassel, town of art
  Kassel is the principal city of Harz and is easily reached from your campsite. Kassel is renowned for its Hercules monument, the Wilhelmshöhe and castle. Lovers of art should not miss the international art exhibition Documenta.
• Walkenried
  This small town located in the southern part of Harz is highly recommended for a visit from your campsite. Walkenried is famous for its centuries-old monastery. Opened in 2006, the museum detailing the history of monastery life makes for an interesting trip.
• Eschwege
  The picturesque and well-preserved medieval town of Eschwege is well known for its unique charm. Museums, shops and restaurants line the town’s winding streets. You will be impressed by the diversity of the town’s half-timbered houses.
• Göttingen
  Göttingen is home to beautiful buildings from the middle ages and the town’s rich culture is reflected in its ancient market, the Gänseliesel and historical observatory. Gottingen can be explored easily by bicycle, but visitors always compliment the town’s excellent transport connections.
