Tim & Lonneke: ‘Our house was right in one of the most beautiful spots on the bay’
31 October, 2019
Last summer, a number of families set out to test our new SunLodges, including Tim & Lonneke with their daughters Fie (2.5) & Puck (1). They spent their holiday in a SunLodge BigLeaf on a family campsite in Croatia. And how did they like it? Let them tell you themselves.
One and a half hour’s flight and there we were: in Pula, the southernmost tip of Istria, Croatia. Three hours later, after a beautiful drive and lovely boat trip, we arrived at Camping Poljana, on the narrowest part of the island of Cres. A crystal clear sea on both sides of the campsite, a stunning location in a small bay, where the first thing we could do was admire the setting sun.

It’s lovely on the veranda
Right in one of the most beautiful spots on the bay was our “little house”, a brand new Sunlodge BigLeaf. Really different from the holiday cottages and mobile homes from our childhoods; they had thought of everything! Equipped with three bedrooms, this accommodation was perfect for our holiday with two young daughters. Each of the kids in their own bedroom (decorated in jungle prints) and mom and dad in their own double bed. We slept like roses in the lovely beds and the air conditioned rooms. In fact, our girls even slept in in the mornings, though this was probably mostly due to spending the days playing on the beach and in the sea ;).
We also thought the veranda was a really lovely place to be. With a large table, a luxurious DuoLounger and two little sun loungers, we basically spent our whole holiday outside. We alternated swimming in the sea with bottle football and other water games in front of the cottage. And then, after a long day, all we had to do was put our dirty crockery in the dishwasher, clean ourselves up under a lovely rain shower and open a cold one while enjoying the sunset… It was pure holiday bliss.
Rent your own boat
Because you are on the island of Cres, you can easily escape the hustle and bustle of Istria. From the campsite, the town of Mali Lošinj is only a short walk or cycle ride away. A lovely place to stroll around and get a cup of coffee or an ice cream. But also the perfect base to explore more of the Adriatic Sea; from day trips on a pirate boat, to dolphin tours, or renting your own speed- or fishing boat. On the last day we took the children to the beautiful Aquapark Čikat which was a quarter of an hour’s drive from the campsite.

We had a wonderful holiday at campsite Poljana. Croatia was already one of our favourite holiday destinations, but in combination with all the luxury of the new SunLodge this is absolutely worth repeating for us. We’ll be back!
