Greetings from Ton & Lucia from the holiday resort on the Croatian coast

I’m a planner. I know exactly where I’m going to go on my next holiday months before I leave. But not this time! My boyfriend and I thought we’d just go wherever the sun was shining. And the sun was definitely shining in Croatia, and particularly on Zaton Holiday Resort Campsite. This is what we thought of it:

We loved our two weeks at this four-star campsite right on the beach. As soon as you arrive at the campsite, you’ll notice the welcoming atmosphere and it all feels very neat and clean. And there’s so much to do!

Swimming pool with sea views

The temperature in Croatia in September varies between 28 and 32 degrees centigrade. Perfect. Of course, we also needed to cool off in the swimming pool frequently. The swimming pool area is a true paradise for water lovers. There are three swimming pools with jet streams, lounging sofas in the pool, and a huge water playground for the kids. A perfect place to enjoy the water. And if you want to relax after all the excitement in the water? Then you can grab a sunbed (for a small fee), order a cocktail (we recommend the Blue Lagoon), and enjoy the view of the sea.

Paradise for families

Even if my boyfriend and I don’t fit into the ‘families’ category, we definitely understand why you’d come here with your family. The whole family can enjoy the pool or the beach. But here are a few other things you’ll find here:

• Adventure Golf and Mini Golf
• Mini driving school
• Playgrounds
• Archery
• Horseriding
• Parasailing
• Jet skiing
• Gym
• And so much more…

You won’t have time to get bored! As well as all of these activities, there’s a very enthusiastic entertainment team who offer a wide range of activities from early in the morning till late at night. Keep an eye on the information boards for activities and times. In the low season the programme might change around a bit.

Camp or rent a holiday home

We camped in our tent. It was perfect. We had a spacious pitch with plenty of shade provided by the surrounding fir trees. But Zaton Holiday Resort Campsite is just like a holiday village. So you can also stay in an apartment, glamping tent or mobile home here. And you can find the SunLodge Aspen and the SunLodge Redwood here. These luxurious mobile homes are located in a quiet part of the campsite, a little further away from the facilities. So you can head out in search of liveliness when it suits you, rather than always being surrounded by it.

What are we going to eat tonight?

Of course we had a few barbecues on our holiday (using fresh herbs from the campsite itself) and we enjoyed those relaxing at our pitch. But, the campsite also has four (!) restaurants, each offering their own speciality. Do we feel like a delicious steak in the à la carte restaurant? Or should we order a fresh pizza from the pizzeria? No. Tonight we’re going to try a traditional Croatian dish. We’re going to the Dalmatian tavern at the campsite for a huge delicious fish dish. Yummy! This is what holidays are all about.

Here are some other things you can do at the campsite:

• Grab some fresh croissants for breakfast in the campsite shop or patisserie. (We thought the ones from the campsite shop were that bit more delicious).
• Order a cocktail in one of the beach bars. While the kids enjoy a homemade ice cream from the ice-cream parlour.
• Sunbathe on the sandy beach. It’s unique on the Croatian coast – most of the beaches are gravel beaches.
• Take an evening stroll along the boulevard. You won’t be disappointed in the colourful sunset!

We’d definitely recommend Zaton Holiday Resort

If you want to want to stay somewhere with everything, then Zaton Holiday Resort is really worth a visit. There are shops, pools, restaurants and loads of activities – you don’t really even need to leave the campsite. The campsite is very big, and that’s something you either like or you don’t. In September it was just busy enough, but we can imagine it gets busier during the high season. One thing’s for sure, there’s plenty of space for everyone!

There is also a lot to do in the vicinity of this campsite. Such as a visit to the waterfalls in the Krka National Park. More about that soon!
